University Village serves
The University of California, Berkeley, offers one Family Student Housing option: University Village is currently the only on-campus residential property for married or partnered students and students with children under the age of 18. University Village is an active, supportive community for students juggling family and educational responsibilities.
Study spaces
Study rooms are available twenty-four hours per day, 7 days per week. Go to rooms 136-787 or 160-105 and use your resident key and/or Cal 1 Card to access a study room. For details on standards of use, policies, and more, visit the University Village academic support page.
Parking at University Village
Parking and permits are handled by the Parking and Transportation department at UC Berkeley. Visit the Parking and Transportation page to acquire permits and public transportation passes.

Maintenance requests
When home appliances, plumbing, windows, doors, or other amenities are not working, submit a maintenance request.
Lockouts
Get a temporary key or replacement, and learn about after-hours and weekend lockout procedures.
Safety and security
To contact UC Berkeley police and security, dial 911 for emergencies. For non-emergency situations, call the UC Berkeley non-emergency number at 510-642-6760, or visit the UCPD website for services and information. For after-hours public service, you can also go to the department’s main public counter in the basement at 1 Sproul Hall. You can also use the Text-to-911 service for emergencies if you are unable to make a voice call.
Moving-in, moving-out and intent to vacate
UC Berkeley moves in more than 9,000 new students each semester on move-in day. To facilitate the process we provide detailed move-in documentation on the UC Berkeley Housing website’s Family Student Housing move-in page. Find everything from temporary parking to what to do if you are sick or will arrive late due to your commute to campus.
With more than 10,000 students in on-campus residence halls and apartments, moving out is its own challenge. While move-out is less structured than move-in, the UC Berkeley Housing website provides information on moving out of your housing unit.
If you intend to move out early, more information and an application to vacate can be found on the Cancellations and Appeals web page.
Wait lists for student housing
Housing on the UC Berkeley campus and in the surrounding community is in high demand. Students who join the waitlist will receive offers as spaces become available. If you receive an offer, you must respond quickly to avoid being moved to the back of the line. The process can differ by building and student categories such as family living, single graduate, resident assistant, etc.
To get on any of the UC Berkeley housing waitlists, apply through the housing portal by the deadline and follow the instructions for your program.
Room transfer request
Not all housing appointments work out. Requests to change room or building can be made prior to move-in, or after move-in based on several criteria. To learn more about the transfer request process and to file a request to change rooms or buildings, visit the housing relocation requests page on the UC Berkeley Housing website.
Financial aid and budgeting
Financial aid and housing are unique at University Village. Financial Aid covers nine months of housing per student, but because these units are for families, leases are year-round. Learn more about how to plan for housing costs based on Financial Aid disbursements at Student Central’s Financial aid for University Village students web page.
