Maintenance requests
Non-emergency maintenance requests should be submitted through the eMaint online portal. Examples of some things you can submit a maintenance request for include plumbing problems, broken appliances, and evidence of pests.
In the case of a life-threatening emergency, dial 911.
For maintenance issues that need urgent attention, such as flood, fire, blood, or other emergencies, call 510-642-2828.
For situations that may cause academic/research interruption or significant financial loss, contact the Customer Service Center at 510-642-1032 in addition to calling local authorities.
Lockouts
If you become locked out of your apartment, visit the xučyun ruwway Front Desk when it is open or call Graduate & Family Living at 510-703-6166 when the front desk is closed.
Safety and security
To contact UC Berkeley police and security, dial 911 for emergencies. For non-emergency situations, call the UC Berkeley non-emergency number at 510-642-6760, or visit the UCPD website for services and information. For after-hours public service, you can also go to the department’s main public counter in the basement at 1 Sproul Hall. You can also use the Text-to-911 service for emergencies if you are unable to make a voice call.
Moving-in and/or moving-out
UC Berkeley moves in more than 9,000 new students each semester on move-in day. To facilitate the process, we provide detailed move-in documentation on the UC Berkeley Housing website move-in page. Find everything from temporary parking to what to do if you are sick or will arrive late due to your commute to campus.
Like moving in, moving out may require some advanced planning. With more than 10,000 students in on-campus residence halls and apartments, moving out is its own challenge. While move-out is less structured than move-in, the UC Berkeley Housing website provides information on moving out of your housing unit.
Wait lists for student housing
Housing on the UC Berkeley campus and in the surrounding community is in high demand. Students who join the waitlist will receive offers as spaces become available. If you receive an offer, you must respond quickly to avoid being moved to the back of the line. The process can differ by building and student category (family living, graduate, resident assistant, etc.).
To get on any of the UC Berkeley housing waitlists, apply through the housing portal by the deadline and follow the instructions for your program.
Room transfer request
Not all housing appointments work out. Requests for a room change or building can be made prior to move-in or after move-in, based on several criteria. To learn more about the transfer request process and to file a request to change rooms or buildings, visit the housing relocation requests page on the UC Berkeley Housing website.
